Watching Pete and J, I saw three dudes on stage that sounded like twenty rock stars. No kidding.

Pete Harper (vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, piano, keys), Jason Blynn (vocals, acoustic and electric guitar), and Sarab Singh (drums, percussion, vocals) have the vocal harmonies of Queen and the classic rock sounds of Kansas, all fused with MGMT’s psychedelic distortions and melodies ingeniously akin to The Beatles.

Their vocals are incomparable. Every member had their own outstanding set of pipes and when put together the three sound like a choir of angels. Coupled with a thoroughly entertaining stage presence, the shimmering vocals set against rapidly rising and falling guitar/drum crescendos threaten the success of every other band in their genre.

Blynn surprised me by switching from the expected nice, masculine solos into random runs of vocals so dynamic it resembled opera.

The dynamics don’t stop there, either. The percussion remained consistently up-tempo but the styles of songs drastically changed from one to the next. Watching Harper live is amazing: he strikes his keys, moves away, comes back and strikes his keys again, again and again, creating a mysterious, paranoid, schizo reverberation that drew my mind into a serene state of enjoyment. Some of their songs have country-alt themes with guitars winding and curling into frenzied, classic rock triumphs. Others played on the beats of urbania hip-hop.

These guys are on point, current, and perfectly in tune with the mentality of the “Right Now.” Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of their latest album Plenty of Good Reasons.
