This article is a shameless promotion of myself. Enjoy!
When Abby Martin began streaming her thoughts and emotions through a paint brush at 19, she discovered her niche. The elaborate and intricate detail that flows from her onto the canvass in a perfect distribution of dots and swirls reflects this introspective artist’s ability to juggle and organize the chaos of the human mind into a comprehensive piece of fully charged beauty.
The explosive energy of each piece calls to life with psychedelic force the different realities Abby treads as she deconstructs the world around her in constant search of balance and truth. The themes conveyed in this art are never static or one-dimensional but rather highly dynamic as a result of her embrace and examination of the good and bad existing in life’s many different arenas. Whether reflecting on the natural world or the man made world, the awakening or deadening of consciousness, cultural controlling dichotomies, the power of the mystic and all that is unknown, the condition of the social, the construction of the economic, or the corruption of the political, Abby’s work displays an intense passion for life and her deep desire to engage others in her vision. – written by Alicia Roldan

Make Art Not War- Ode to Shepard Fairy

Addendum- This piece was made after watching Zeitgeist: the Addendum. It symbolizes how the banks, money, and the federal reserve essentially control policy. Bush is portrayed as the mask to the elite running the show. In his eyes reads In God We Trust.

Two Minutes Hate- Inspired by George Orwell’s 1984

I Pledge to the Empire- Inspired by the striking similarities between the corporate control of all mainstream media and the propagandizing of the Germans under the Nazi regime, the imperialistic and illegal wars of aggression, the massacres of millions from these wars, the false flag terrorism orchestrated by the U.S. government over the years, and the covert actions carried out around the world by the C.I.A in our name.

Flor Peligrosa- The half wilted and dying flower symbolizes the death and rebirth of all things in nature.

Dreampeace- This piece is inspired by the notion that inner and global peace should be something we, as a people, should continuously strive for.
Over the past three years a variety of different venues in San Diego have exhibited Abby’s paintings. The most current display of her artwork is at Pangaea Outpost and the Cirello gallery on Ray Street. She looks forward to exploring and connecting with the Bay Area art scene following a move there at the end of 2009.
